Recently moved to the Bay Area from LA after finishing up a grad program in social work. I actually lived here for a 2-year stint in the mid-90s so this is a return of sorts. Originally from the east coast as is evidenced by my fear of strangers, sarcasm and all around bad attitude. I'm experiencing some pretty intense culture shock after living in LA for 4 years (I can hear you judging by the way--it's not all bad you know). I'm into exploring the area and have a lousy sense of direction and no GPS so tour guides or newcomers who want to get lost with me are welcome! I'm rediscovering leisure post-grad school and enjoy hiking, live music and good storytelling any way I can get it--books, radio particularly This American Life, Mad Men, film, the Moth. I've found new things to love about the Bay Area pretty quickly including Yerba Buena Gardens. I really want an excuse to ride that carousel and I'm completely charmed by the bronze statue that moves when people stand up or sit down--if you don't know what I'm talking about, go see it!
My Ideal Person:
I'm looking for a strong intellectual connection, curiosity and playfulness. Also a sucker for kindness and witty banter.
The last great book I read Currently reading The Center Cannot Hold (autobiography of a woman with schizophrenia). Some of my favorite reads: Interpreter of Maladies, Poisonwood Bible, Atonement, The Whore’s Child, Motherless Brooklyn.
My most humbling moment Just the other day, I ended the life of a moth by whacking it with what I thought was a piece of junk mail. When I looked down at the envelope, I saw these words: "Message from the Dalai Lama Enclosed." For sure my station in the next life will not be good. And I should add that I am normally not so cavalier in taking lives. I'm a vegetarian and have been known to politely escort bugs out the front door.
Favorite on-screen sex scene I think I must have blocked it out. I don't like to remember any sex I'm not involved in.
